Over many centuries spiritual teachers have taught that faith has an important role to play in our health and happiness.
Unfortunately, many who have rejected religion have also rejected their own spirituality.
Religion, when translated means to ‘bind’ or ‘bring together’. What we often find is that the meaning is misinterpreted and misunderstood. The fact that we have many religions instead of one harmonious world religion is an issue in itself.
Faith in a Higher Power.
Whether or not there is a place for religion in your life there can still be room for faith and spirituality.
Faith is a deep sense of trust in a higher power. You can call that power whatever it is that you like. Some call it God, the Divine, the Universe, the Higher self or the True self. All these words refer to the same thing, a Higher creative power.
Whatever it is that created the universe is the same force that created you. You are a part of the universe, made up of the same matter and material that all other creations are. All major spiritual traditions believe that man is a spiritual being. What that means is that as a spiritual being you are a great creator and that you have the power to create the life you want. This is where faith comes in. You must have faith and belief in yourself and your own power to create physical, emotional and spiritual healing and happiness.
Negative versus Positive Thinking
The mind and the body are intricately connected. When you experience stress or negative patterns of thinking, it can manifest as physical pain or mental illness.
Positive thoughts can lead to healing, health and happiness. They can re-wire your brain. The majority of your minds power lies within the subconscious. If you allow positive thoughts and imagery to infuse into the subconscious mind through various practices, this powerful part of your mind will send out positive healing vibration.
Think about how much negative vibration is sent out through the day to day thoughts of those stuck in their own negative behavioural patterns. In this fear driven world it is more important now than ever to begin a practice of faith to inspire change. The practice starts with your own ability to have faith in yourself and your own power to create change.
There are a number of ways that you can practice faith and connect to a higher power.
- Meditation can help you to connect with your higher self and the knowledge that ‘all is one’ and the present moment. It is from the present moment that change can occur.
- Prayer work is used by many people with the idea that if you release your worries to a higher power your ego will be reduced and connection with the higher self increases.
- Gratitude empowers the individual to raise their vibration and think positively by acknowledging what is already working well in their life.
By trusting in a higher power, nurturing your faith and focusing on positive outcomes, you will find that you have the power to create a happier, healthier life.
