The Power of Positive Thinking

Positive thinking

The Power of Positive Thinking.

We all know that positive feelings have a positive impact on our lives. These emotions help us to feel energised and productive. Positive energy can even make others like us better!

Positive emotions have a huge effect on our day-to-day existence. Positive feelings such as love, joy, gratitude and hope can help us become more resilient. They can also help us through tough times and change our lives for the better.

If you can increase a number of positive emotions you experience, you’ll reap benefits in the areas of career, relationships and daily life.

Is optimism the key to happiness?

A positive attitude toward life may be the key to happiness. We are all born with the ability to lead a happy life and the ability to experience positive emotions.
Those of us who experience mostly positive emotions have a positive attitude toward life. This can make them more resilient and successful.
Optimism creates resilience against problems such as depression or anxiety because it helps us to see the good in situations.
People who have an optimistic outlook often have healthier relationships and more successful social and professional lives.
This is because they look at the world in an open way, and see opportunities and solutions where others see problems.

Anyone who wants to lead a happy, fulfilled life should aim for a positive attitude. The way to do this is by increasing a number of positive emotions you experience. If you manage to experience more positive than negative emotions, you will end up with a positive attitude toward life.

We can all learn to be positive

Positive thinking is an achievable goal and is accessible to all of us. Many of us get caught up in negative thought patterns and we all experience negative emotions such as sadness, anger and hatred from time to time.
If you can counteract negative thoughts with more optimistic ones you will be on your way towards developing a positive attitude.

Techniques you can use to develop a positive attitude:

  • Develop happy habits – If you like practising yoga then develop the habit of attending classes. If eating chocolate makes you feel good then treat yourself responsibly. By learning how to trigger positive emotions, you’ll increase your ability to deal with hardship.
  • Write down your positive feelings – There is a strong link between self-knowledge and happiness. By documenting your behaviour and thoughts you will find out what makes you feel good, then you can try and cultivate those behaviours.
  • Practice gratitude – Gratitude is a powerful positive emotion. If experienced frequently, even small doses of it lead to a continuous improvement in your general attitude towards life. Keep a diary of the things that you are grateful for throughout the day.
  • Practice Mindfulness – Mindfulness can help you to change your everyday feelings by teaching you to enjoy every moment of your life by focusing on the positive aspects of everything you experience. Being mindful doesn’t only apply to positive emotions. It also means being aware of negative feelings, so you can examine them and better understand how your mind works.
  • Practice Meditation – Meditation can help you slow down, live in the now and become more aware of the positive moments in life. Meditation can to reduce pain, stress and anxiety, its effects create physical changes in the brain. Meditation reduces activity in the brain regions that involve negative emotions, and increases activity in the parts of the brain’s left hemisphere involved in positive emotions.
