Why Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient system of personal development.

Yoga encompasses an understanding of how the body works as well as the effect that food, breath, meditation and movement have on your health.

Yoga takes into account all aspects of the individual and suggests ways that you can maintain your health on many levels including:

Physical health

Asana (static and dynamic poses) helps develop strength, flexibility and stamina. Static poses can aid detoxification of the tissues and pain relief.

Our approach: We understand that not every body works in every yoga posture, so we work with an organic alignment philosophy. By taking into account your individual needs, as well as your body composition and structure, we help you to determine the kind of practice that will best suit you.

Yogic herbal remedies, dietary changes and cleansing practices are designed to detoxify the body.

Mental / Emotional health

Asana develops focus and strength of character.
Meditation has numerous benefits in calming the mind whilst relieving symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety.
Adopting yogic philosophy in our daily lives helps to break down what it takes to live an emotionally healthy life into an easy to follow process.

Spiritual health

Yoga was originally practised for spiritual awakening. It is said that yogic practices such as meditation can help to connect us to our higher self or true self (the Atman).
Yogic philosophy and wisdom you can develop a more profound knowledge of how you can live a more conscious life and how you can gain a deep understanding of what your purpose is.
Anyone who wants to grow in consciousness should maintain a regular yogic practice including meditation, pranayama (breath) and asana (movement).

Vibrational or Energetic health

All yogic practices serve to direct energy flow (prana) and balance our subtle energetic body which includes chakras, meridians and nadis. The energy body operates as an interface between consciousness and matter, and we can affect our energy but working through the body to clear blockages.

Keeping the body healthy on all four of these levels is vital for fulfilling the key goals of life.

Gentle Strength Yoga

Our gentle strengthening yoga style is a variation of Hatha (sun/moon) and works the muscles and nervous system in a succession of functional postures, providing the body with the tools to develop strength and resilience, while increasing flexibility, discipline and focus.

Soothing Yin Yoga

Our soothing style of yoga, (Yin Yoga) is the process of working with less responsive tissues in the body, fascia, ligaments, tendons and joints. These are tissues that become compressed and bound up with stress and day to day activities like sitting.

Yin yoga takes the body through a series of long holds (3-5 minutes) providing gentle traction on the joints, releasing fixation and the stress of compression.

Yin yoga incorporates a meditation component and is an excellent stress release therapy.
