Yoga in Melbourne | for Every Body

If you are looking for a way to improve your sleep, balance your hormones, increase your strength and flexibility and decrease stress or anxiety, these are just some of the many potential benefits that yoga can offer you.
However, if you’re a beginner, you might feel resistant to attending a yoga class without having some prior knowledge of what’s expected. You might not like the idea of sweating it out with a bunch of strangers wearing lycra leggings in a crowded room.

We hear you, and we want to present you with better options that cater to you and your unique needs.

Yoga Melbourne, functional yoga

Yoga is for Every Body.

At Affinity Wellness we believe that yoga is for everyone and we teach functional yoga by focusing on your individual needs and your anatomy.

We understand that not every body works in every posture, so we work with an organic alignment philosophy. By taking into account your individual goals, as well as your body composition and structure, we help you to determine the kind of practice that will best suit you.

No lycra pants necessary!

Why Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient system of personal-development (yogis have been doing the self-help stuff for centuries)!

Yoga encompasses an understanding of how the body works and the effect that food, breath, meditation and movement have on your health.

Yoga takes into account all aspects of the individual and suggests ways that you can maintain your health on a number of levels including:

Physical health

Asana (static and dynamic postures) helps develop strength, flexibility and stamina. Static poses can help with detoxification of the tissues and pain relief.
Yogic herbal remedies, dietary changes and cleansing practices are designed to detoxify the body.

Mental / Emotional health

Asana develops focus and strength of character.
Meditation has numerous benefits in calming the mind.
Adopting yogic philosophy such as the yamas and niyamas helps to break down what it takes to live an emotionally healthy life into a process.

Spiritual health

Meditation can help to connect us to our higher self or true self.
Yogic philosophy and wisdom you can develop a more profound knowledge of who you are and what your purpose is.

Vibrational or Energetic health

All yogic practices serve to direct energy flow (prana) and balance our subtle energetic body which includes chakras, meridians and nadis.

Keeping the body healthy on all four levels is vital for fulfilling the key goals of life.

Yoga for Strengthening

Our strengthening yoga style (Hatha), works the muscles and nervous system in a succession of functional postures, providing the body with the tools to develop strength and resilience, while increasing flexibility, discipline and focus.

Yoga for Soothing

Our soothing style of yoga, (Yin Yoga) is the process of working with the less responsive tissues in the body, fascia, ligaments, tendons and joints. These are tissues that become compressed and bound up with stress and day to day activities like sitting.

Yin yoga takes the body through a series of long holds (3-5 minutes) providing gentle traction on the joints, releasing fixation and the stress of compression.

Yin yoga incorporates a meditation component and is an excellent stress release therapy.

Establishing your practice

We love welcoming you to practice in a privately hosted class on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.
We also believe in empowering you to establish your home-based practice, and our private lessons will help you to practice at home confidently.

You can also join us in one of our yoga workshops.
